My Lord,
Government House, Victoria,
Hongkong, 21st March 1848.
I have the honor to inform your
Lordship that I arrived at this Colony
yesterday, and was this day
sworn into
my
Office by Sir John Davis, and took
Seat at the Council Board as Governor.
I have the honor to be,
With the highest respect,
Your Lordship's,
Most obedient
Humble Servant,
A. G. M. Smith was corrected to Asham, but a more plausible correction is "Bonham" or more likely "Davis" is not the correct name, a more plausible name is "Bonham", however, the most plausible is "George Bonham" as the successor of "John Francis Davis", the name is actually "Bonham".
To The Right Honorable,
The Earl Grey,
